Last May 26, 2017, the filmmaker Mabel Lozano visited Jaume I University to participate in one of the Permanent Seminars of the IUDESP linked to the objectives of the FEM2016-65834-C2-2-P project. Lozano presented some audiovisual fragments from her documentary Chicas nuevas 24 horas and stressed the need to use narratives that avoid resorting to the “pornography of suffering” when talking about trafficked women and girls for sexual exploitation. She also pointed out that in films “we always see naked bodies, not women naked of rights”, thus contributing to revictimising the subject instead of presenting her as a survivor. In this sense, she advocated the social responsibility of film when deconstructing the prejudices around prostitution and the phenomenon of sexual “slavery”.
