The co-founder of Pikara Magazine Andrea Momoitio led a slow thinking session of the Master’s Degree in Digital Communication, Culture and Citizenship on January 13, 2017. In a friendly and convivial tone, Momoitio recounted the conception and development of the most innovative project of journalism in the Spanish media landscape with a feminist and gender perspective.
The closure of the Andra newspaper and the Frida magazine prompted Andrea Momoitio and June Fernández to try to fill that gap and start the adventure of creating their own media in 2010. Momoitio explained that for them journalism with a gender perspective does not mean publishing on “women’s issues” or a journalism by women and for women. Its intention is to provide a transforming, feminist viewpoint, which considers inequalities, which attempts to show diverse models of women and men. Pikara Magazine is committed to denouncing hard and unfair realities, but also to celebrating the propositions in favour of a better world, diversity and people’s transforming power. Momoitio pointed out that all this is done in combination with a fresh and dynamic style that is not incompatible with the quality and rigor that they bestow to their contents.
