The artist Gema Pastor Andrés has exhibited her work “26 p/m” in the exhibition Laboratorio de Arte at the UNICA space in Calle Dulcinea 8 in Madrid from June 28 to September 16, 2022.

The work plays with the percentage of female farm owners, which with respect to the national total of farm owners is 26.3% (30.15% owned, 17.51% rented, 24.51% communal and 24.5% other) according to data from the National Institute of Statistics updated to April 21, 2021.

The artwork reflects on the power of representations and intends in an act of physical violence to confront the surface of the image, that surface of the image that contains the idea of the world.

A video is exhibited, in which one can see a photograph of a farmland to which 26 stones are thrown for a minute and the result, a photograph that has practically not moved. This work vindicates that useless act that pretends to erase the surface of the representation and yet barely manages to bruise it.
